A note on our reporting process
After nearly a decade at NHPR, Outside/In host Sam Evans-Brown shared plans to leave the station; in July he will begin a new job in clean energy advocacy. Windfall encompassed nearly three years of reporting, and the Outside/In team edited and produced the series before Sam Evans-Brown started his new position. Throughout 2020 and 2021, senior producer Jack Rodolico contributed reporting and worked closely with Sam on writing and producing all the episodes.
As is common practice in the production of Outside/In, Windfall went through a group editing process, with other members of the team providing editorial guidance, and production support on multiple drafts of every episode. We also hired an external fact-checker. Finally, when Sam announced plans to leave NHPR, we decided to bring in our newsroom’s environmental reporter, Annie Ropeik, as a co-host and editor.
All of these efforts, as well as this statement, are part of our commitment to transparency and journalistic rigor.
